Meeting was called to order at 12:10

Motion was made to approve December minutes by David Kaiser, seconded by Michael Kruge

Minutes were unanimously approved.

II. Committee Reports

Recruitment and Retention did not meet, but will meet in February. Debra Ragin wants to address the committee to discuss ways of keeping MSU diverse in these challenging economic times.

Mentoring:
Thank your Mentor Day is Thursday, January 29th. There is an e-card available on the web. It was demonstrated. It is sponsored by PCCAD, Acenet, and Equity and Diversity.

Education Committee:
No report

III. Ongoing Business

Accessibility:
Installation has begun for automatic door paddles to provide wheelchair accessibility to College Hall, University Hall, and the fourth floor of the Red Hawk Deck. Meneghin will follow up to make sure both sides of the door (into the buildings and out) will be accessible. Smith credited SGA and Montclarion for advocacy on this issue. Meneghin will check to make sure the new Cali School will be accessible.

The University map will now indicate the route of the Shuttle for Persons with Disabilities.

Activities Calendar:
Please send information on all appropriate programming to Meneghin for posting on the PCAAD website and the University activities calendar.

Affirmative Action Day:
Affirmative Action Day will be held on Wednesday, February 18th. There will be no PCAAD full commission meeting on that day.

Agenda – all events will be held in the Kasser Theater

  • 12:30 – Student groups will arrive and set up tables
  • 1:30 - Doors will open – students will greet visitors at tables – there will be some food set up for the student reps
  • 2:00 – Dr. Cole will read the proclamation – virtual flag raising
  • 2:10-2:30 – There will be performances from The NAACP, The Muslim Student Organization and Spectrums.
  • 2:30 – Presentation by Had to Be Productions – “Not Until you Know my Story”
  • Presentation will be followed by dessert in the lobby.

Jenkins reported that $750-$800 has been raised so far. We are seeking additional contributions.

The cost for the performance (including travel expenses) is $3500.00

We will create a DVD of the performance if funding is available. Meneghin will send emails to remind everyone to come. We will ask Dr. Cole to invite the campus community to the event. Almonte will create a Facebook page.

IV. Other

Abreu reported that the GLBTQ Center is now open and staffed in SC423.Amie McMath is the new program assistant. Alston announced that OSAU flag-raising will be held on February 2nd at 12:00 Abreu reported that Peace Week will be held during the last week in March. Jhon Velasco is still accepting proposals for the peace conference.
