Mentoring
M. Carter, discussed the launch date to the campus community and students.  The spirit baskets will be used as incentives.  M. Colon, reported that the bookstore gave $100 that was used to purchase centennial merchandise.  “Thank you to all the departments that shared to make the baskets.”  When the information has been gathered from the questionnaire, the data will be analyzed to bring about focus groups to discuss specific issues of mentoring.  Next month E. Abreau will discuss Thank Your Mentor Day.

Harris reported the preparation of getting students to plan for the program in the spring.  An open mic will be provided to discuss and express what they believe about Affirmative Action.  Students will be encouraged to express different perspectives about this issue.  J. Harris distributed news articles: “Blacks Trail in Growth of Income” from the Wall Street Journal November 13, 2007 and “Income Gap Grows Between Blacks, Whites” from The Herald News November 13, 2007.

GLBTQ studies:
C. Meneghin, raised concern regarding the sensitivity of using the word queer in the GLBTQ minor. A brief discussion was held about the use of queer in academia. C. Meneghin added “we are not sure if it is a PCAA issue but it is one of those trigger words.”  D. Lorenzo thinks it is a great thing to bring it to the attention of the studies, O. Rodriquez, suggested to bring in representatives of the minor to speak to the committee.  J. Harris agreed and added the educational value it would have for the committee.  J. Velasco will reach out to Dr. Sally McWilliams to have a conversation and invite her to the December meeting.

A motion to adjourn was made by M. Brown, seconded by J. Harris.  The meeting adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
