  • Planning, implementing and evaluating divisional and library policies and procedures for technical services and library systems divisions;
  • Managing human resources in Library departments of Systems, Collection Development/Acquisitions, Cataloging, Circulation, and Government Documents;
  • Coordinating goal-setting, strategic planning and effective and efficient operations in departments;
  • Developing and monitoring collections, department and division budgets;
  • Primary liaison with OCLC, Lyrasis, and SirsiDynix on library, campus, local and national committees;
  • Current projects:
    1. Created new Access Services Department that now includes laptop-lending, self-check, E-Reserves and 24/5 hours of service;
    2. Established new Library Archives Room with digitization, cataloging and preservation level care for targeted collections, such as the MSU yearbooks and the Montclarion student newspapers using ContentDM see http://netdrive.montclair.edu/~chowm/CDM_Web/index.html;
    3. Planned and implemented moving, evaluating and processing 17,000 book donation of the entire Montclair Art Museum Library to MSU;
    4. Developing LibGuides and federated search tools for comprehensive search and discovery of Library resources ;
    5. Investigating open source integrated library systems as member and beta tester in the VALE-NJ OLE Open Source Steering Committee; and
    6. Leading the MSU NJVid Video Portal Learning on Demand Pilot Project with insttructional technology and faculty in the four schools testing FEDORA and Shibboleth upload and authenticaltion system for classroom use of streaming video clips and lectures on demand.

Projects included the renovation and expansion of the library, and planning for the new TCNJ Library Building as a member of the Library Building Implementation Committee 1999-2002; worked in campus governance as founding member of TCNJ Staff Senate and as secretary of the TCNJ Faculty Senate Information Technology Advisory Council 2000-2002, and as a member of TCNJ Teaching Learning Technology Roundtable (TLTR).

Grants

  • Wrote and presented reports and chaired Copyright and Learning on Demand Working Groups and served as member of Alpha Implementer Team for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) three year grant (2008-2010) for development of the open source statewide NJVid Video Portal Project .
  • Developed metadata template and workflow with Metadata Committee and worked on Grant-writing Committee for the IMLS grant-funded New Jersey Digital Highway, (2003-2006 and 2008-2009).
  • Acquired grant funding (1998-1999) from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities and Monmouth University to plan and design the Lewis Mumford Web Site, with grant funding from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a web site dedicated to Monmouth University's special collection of the personal library and artworks of Lewis Mumford, a philosopher, urban planner and architectural critic whose life and works span the twentieth century (1895-1990).
  • Participated and reported on federal LSTA grant funding (1995-1998) from the New Jersey Department of Education, the Monmouth Library Association, the New Jersey State Library, and the Central Jersey Regional Library Cooperative to develop Web pages and information resource portal for 16 New Jersey public and high school members of the Monmouth Electronic Library Online Network (MELON) Project.
  • Compiled reports and conducted workshops for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and Mellon grant-funded Center for Electronic Texts in the Humanities (CETH, a joint project of Rutgers University and Princeton University Libraries). Created The Directory of Electronic Text Centers.
