Profile
Ann Gel Fairlie is the director of Graphic Design Services and is responsible for creating and designing printed materials such as brochures, newsletters, flyers, invitations and other print pieces, as well as being a support for the Web Services group. Ms. Fairlie received the Communicator Award of Distinction for her invitation design for the opening of the John J. Cali School of Music. The current Montclair State University logo was designed by Ms. Fairlie.
After graduating from Skidmore College (BA), Ms. Fairlie started her career at Time magazine in the editorial complaint office. Six months later, she was hired by The New Yorker as a graphic designer and shortly thereafter, was promoted to art director becoming the second woman executive in the firm’s history. Ms. Fairlie worked at The New Yorker for 18 years, where she managed a department of designers and was referred to as the "Guardian of the Corporate Image." She also wrote and designed direct mail pieces for the Circulation Department.
After leaving The New Yorker, Ms. Fairlie established Ask Ann Gel, a graphic design/production agency serving clients such as Connoisseur Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Town and Country, The New York Times Magazine Group, Esquire, the Hearst Corporation, House Beautiful and Family Circle. She has worked as a designer at Montclair State since 1998.
