Tiger Woods : A Biography, 2d Edition (Greenwood Biographies, May, 2010) (Hardcover)
by Lawrence J. Londino

Book Description

While golf is seldom thought of as a sport for minorities, Tiger Woods has made the sport appeal to a whole new demographic. When only a teenager, Woods accomplished many junior records in golf and enjoyed unusual attention for a young person. While not yet thirty years old, Woods' impact on American culture goes beyond the world of sports. And his celebrity status has made him probably the most recognized athlete in the world. The 2d edition also covers his most recent personal infidelities and they have affected his career and image.

This review is from: Tiger Woods: A Biography (Greenwood Biographies) (Hardcover)
Tiger Woods is an icon of golfing whose celebrity status and recent personal problems have been the subject of innumerable newspaper and magazines articles, as well as fodder for news broadcasters and late night comedians. Now in an updated and expanded second edition, "Tiger Woods: A Biography" by Lawrence J. Londino continues presenting his professional accomplishments such as winning 71 PGA tournaments and being named the PGA Tour 'Player of the Year' ten times. He is also currently the career money list leader in professional golf. Of special note are Woods' philanthropic contributions which include the Tiger Woods Foundation, the Tiger Woods Learning Center, and (in honor of his father) the Earl Woods Scholarship Program. Mandatory reading for all Tiger Woods fans, this impressively detailed, 232-page biography also offers a brief overview of broadcasting and sports, and the relationship between professional athletes and their financial sponsors, making it an ideal and very highly recommended addition for school and community library American Biography collections.

"TIGER WOODS: A BIOGRAPHY brings the world of golf in general and the achievements of Tiger Woods in particular to life, providing a biographical which examines his participation in the sport, its particular demands, and how he lived up to his potential. A timeline of events highlights the high points, while discussions of Afro-American rights and PGA requirements provide the well-rounded background."
