Profile
John T. Shannon, Esq. was appointed Vice President for University Advancement in 2010. He oversees the University’s efforts in the areas of development, fund-raising, communications, marketing, alumni affairs and community relations, along with the activities of the University Foundation. Prior to assuming his current position, he served as the inaugural President and Chief Executive Officer of East Baltimore Development Inc. (EBDI). A groundbreaking public/private partnership involving Johns Hopkins University, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the State of Maryland and others, EBDI successfully undertook the largest urban redevelopment initiative in the history of Baltimore, Maryland under Mr. Shannon’s leadership.
Mr. Shannon also has previously served as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Vice President of the University of Pennsylvania; the First Deputy Director of Commerce for the City of Philadelphia Commerce Department; and the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Cooper’s Ferry Development Association in Camden, New Jersey. Mr. Shannon has a BA in English from La Salle University, a master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
