Nicole Smith is currently working and training with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. This year, she is also touring with Doug Elkins & Friends as a Maria/Swing, in “Fraulein Maria”, as well as performing with Donna Scro/Freespace Dance. She has studied as an apprentice with Stephen Petronio, Jennifer Muller, and Zvi Gottheiner, and performed in works of Robert Battle, Alexandra Beller, Darcy Naganuma, Pascal Rekoert, and Maxine Steinman. Nicole’s recent choreographic collaboration, project:Smith, is fiscally sponsored by Dance NJ, and had its performance debut in 2009. Her choreography has been seen at Dance New Amsterdam, Two River Theater, Kasser Theater, Bryant Park, The Rover NYC, Merce Cunningham Studios, the Outlet Dance Project, White Wave Dance Festivals, and American College Dance Festivals. This past summer, some of her smaller works with duet partner Lisa Peluso, were showcased at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Nicole has also served as the rehearsal director for the MSU Repertory Company’s reconstructions of choreography by Shapiro & Smith and Susan Marshall & Company, as well as a faculty and guest choreographer. Nicole Smith has taught ballet and modern dance at universities, performing arts high schools, and Dance New Amsterdam in NYC. She has also worked with Young Audiences of New Jersey for the Dodge Dance Initiative curriculum testing for dance in NJ’s public schools, and as a yoga instructor to children, adults, and individuals with Autism. Nicole currently acts a teaching artist with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, touring nationally and internationally in 2011.
