Profile

Dr. Dana J. Wilber is an associate professor of literacy as part of the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Literacy Department in the College of Ed. She graduated with her doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2005. Prior to that, she did her Master's work and certification to teach secondary English at the University of Colorado in Boulder. As well, she was a seventh grade balanced literacy and social studies teacher in urban Denver, in a laptop-enabled classroom.

Specialization

My research concerns the intersection of literacy practices and new technologies - particularly how new technologies create new literacies and how users, through their literacy practices, re-design new technologies. I focus on the literacy practices of adolescents and college-age students, and a variety of tools including blogs, wikis, and hypertext teaching environments, as well as non-online technologies. Through working at this intersection, I also analyze and theorize about relations of power and the nature of knowledge in different spaces, academic and non-academic.
