Teacher Certification Requirements
Teacher certification requires approximately 30 semester hours of education course work and field experiences; students must apply and be admitted to the Teacher Education Program. Teacher certification in combination with major programs may require the completion of more than 128 semester hours prior to graduation. In addition, to be recommended by MSU for certification, students must pass the appropriate PRAXIS II examination. For details on specific programs, consult the current University catalog, the program worksheet prepared by the advisor in the subject-major department, or contact the Center of Pedagogy in Chapin Hall. For applications to the Undergraduate Teacher Education Program, students must visit the office in Chapin Hall 103, or call (973) 655-4139.
