Service-Learning Holds Annual S-L Workshop Featuring Dr. Edward Zlotkowski

The Research Academy's Service-Learning and Community Engagement Program welcomes renowned S-L scholar Dr. Edward Zlotkowski for a day of faculty workshops, service-learning awards ceremony and more.

Annual Service-Learning Fellows Workshop

On June 8, 2011, the Research Academy for University Learning's (RAUL) Service-Learning and Community Engagement Program will hold its annual service-learning fellows workshop. This workshop is presented to service-learning fellows, interested faculty members, and any other persons willing to learn more about the pedagogy, philosophies, and practices of service-and-community-based learning at Montclair State University and in the global education community. This year's event will feature renowned service-learning scholar, practitioner, and editor of 21 volume monograph series, American Association for Higher Education Series on Service-Learning In The Disciplines (1997 - 2005), Dr. Edward Zlotkowski.

DR. EDWARD ZLOTKOWSKI, a professor of English at Bentley College and the Senior Faculty Fellow at National Campus Compact.  From 1995-2004, he served as general editor of the American Association for Higher Education’s 20-volume series exploring the relationship between service-learning and academic disciplines/disciplinary areas. He has also designed and facilitated professional development opportunities in service-learning for provosts and deans as well as a series of summer institutes for engaged academic departments. He has written and spoken extensively on a range of service-learning topics, and regularly uses service-learning in his own teaching.  In 2002, he edited Service-Learning and the First-Year Experience: Preparing Students for Personal Success and Civic Responsibility, and in 2004 served as lead author of The Community’s College: Indicators of Engagement at Two-Year Institutions. Most recently, Dr. Zlotkowski has co-authored the book Higher Education and Democracy: Essays on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement.

The service-learning fellows workshop will be held in Sprague Library Room 031 (lower level) from 9:00-1:00. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to pre-registered attendees (by invitation only).
