Group Therapy

GROUP WORKS!

Group therapy provides an opportunity for you to try out new behaviors, express feelings you have been hesitant to express, assert yourself in different ways, and experiment with novel ideas. You’ll also learn from other members.

Groups currently running at CAPS include:

"Understanding Self and Others – Mixed Gender"
This interpersonal process group is for women and men 18 to mid-20's who would like to gain greater self-awareness, understand their relationships better, and improve existing and future relationships.
(Mondays 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.)

"Living Out Loud"
This is a support group for students who are in the process of coming out and want to move toward "living out loud" rather than in silence. (Tuesdays 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.)

"Understanding Self and Others – Mixed Gender"
This interpersonal process group is for men and women who are seeking more self-awareness and a greater understanding of their relationships. (Tuesdays 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.)

"Understanding Self and Others – Women Only"
This is an interpersonal process group for women 18 to early 20's who seek to increase self-awareness, boost self-esteem, and improve relationships. (Wednesdays 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.)

"Understanding Self and Others- Mixed Gender"  (2 sections)
These interpersonal process groups deal with a broad range of issues facing students, including academics, peer or romantic relationships, family issues, personal growth, and self-esteem. Group goals are expressing feelings, giving and receiving feedback, learning trust and improving interpersonal relationships.
(Section #1: Wednesdays 1:00 – 2:20 p.m. Section #2: Thursdays 1:00 – 2:20 p.m.)

"Women’s Empowerment Group"
This group offers counseling and support for women who have experienced sexual abuse in their lives.    (Thursdays 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.)

"Connecting Across Cultures"
This is an informal discussion/support group for International students, students who have studied abroad, and any students who are interested in dialoguing and connecting across cultures. Students can make connections at MSU, engage with others from different cultures, while also supporting each other and sharing similar experiences and challenges.
(Thursdays 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. - Drop-In Center)

"Healing from Loss"
This is a support group for students who have experienced the death of a family member. Coping with the loss can be challenging during the college years. It can be helpful to connect with other students who may have had similar experiences, feelings, and family circumstances, in order to help each other to feel less alone in the grief process.
(Mondays 3-4:30pm)

For more information about any of these groups, ask your CAPS therapist.
