Montclair State mobilizes in
response to national tragedy
The Montclair State community joined the rest of the
nation on Tuesday watching in unimaginable shock and horror the events
that unfolded before our eyes when terrorists destroyed the World Trade
Center towers and crippled the Pentagon. It was a paralyzing feeling,
but many knew that the University, as a community, needed to spring into
action to deal with the effects of this terrible tragedy.

Recognizing signs of trauma
Cherie Elfenbein (photo), who has been with Montclair
State's
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) for just a few weeks,
was a member of the New York City Mental health Crisis Team in 1993 when
the World Trade Center was bombed. She and other CAPS counselors have
been working diligently since Tuesday offering services to anyone who
needs help coping with this recent tragedy. (Full

sense of Tuesday's senseless tragedy. Yet they are the ones children are
looking to for answers and explanations. At the Montclair State University

Alumna closer to
American hero than she thought
Alumna Jennifer Bucco '97, a teacher at Northern Valley
High School in Demarest, spoke with her 9th-grade world history honors
class on Tuesday about the definition of a hero. As Tuesday's events unfolded,
the class listened to reports about how a few passengers on United Airlines
ill-fated flight 93 from Newark may have fought the hijackers. Bucco didn't
know at the time, but one of those heroes, Jeremy Glick, was her boyfriend's
