In the wake of the national tragedy, the Athletic Department decided
to return to the playing fields on Thursday, Sept. 13, after cancelling
all play Tuesday and Wednesday. The decision came after the New Jersey
Athletic Conference voted earlier that morning to allow individual member
institutions to make their own decisions regarding the resumption of conference
competition.
The Red Hawks field hockey and volleyball teams were the first in action
on Thursday. This weekend, the football team will travel to SUNY-Brockport
and the women's tennis team will meet Caldwell College. The volleyball
team will be at the United States Merchant Marine Academy for a tournament.
"I think one important thing is to return to normalcy as soon as
we can," said Athletic Director Holly Gera. "That doesn't mean
to forget or disregard what transpired. It will be recognized by us at
every game. Perhaps the best way to get back to normalcy is to engage
in activities, and get back with families and friends. People on teams
are like a family, so it's important for them to be together to get back
to their normal schedules."
