Honoree Ellyn McColgan '75

Distinguished Alumna

Ellyn McColgan, recipient of The Margaret and Herman Sokol Award for Alumni Achievement and Civic Leadership, has been a senior executive in the financial services industry for more than 25 years. After graduating from Harvard Business School in 1983, McColgan began her career at Shearson American Express. She joined Fidelity Investments in 1990 where she worked for 17 years, developing an expertise in growing the retail and institutional distribution businesses. While there, McColgan built the Fidelity Brokerage Company into the largest brokerage company in the United States as measured by client assets and client accounts, growing the business to $1.9 trillion in assets. She left the firm in 2007 as the president of distribution and operations.

McColgan then served as president and chief operating officer of Morgan Stanley Global Wealth Management Group, where she led an organization of 17,000 people and $6.5 billion in revenues until she left the firm in early 2009.  

McColgan is currently a member of the board of NASDAQ OMX, where she serves on the Audit and Nominating and Governance committees.

McColgan serves on a number of boards and councils, Including the Macaulay Honors College Foundation of CUNY and the President’s Council of Massachusetts General Hospital. Her past service has included terms on the boards of Young Audiences New York, the Museum of Fine Arts and Babson College. She was the cochair of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association from 2006-2007 and a member of the board for several years.

McColgan graduated summa cum laude from Montclair State College in New Jersey.  She currently resides in New York City.
