Institute Fellows

The Margaret and Herman Sokol Institute for Pharmaceutical Life Sciences supports transdisciplinary research among College of Science and Mathematics faculty, students, academic collaborators and industry collaborators in the areas of:

  • medicinal chemistry
  • pharmacology
  • biochemistry
  • natural products chemistry
  • molecular biology
  • computational sciences
  • environmental toxicology and pharmacology
  • new emerging technologies such as biomaterials and nanotechnology

The Institute’s first major pharmaceutical life sciences initiative is the Sokol Institute Fellows Program. Under this program, CSAM faculty from different CSAM departments, or a CSAM faculty member and outside collaborator, may submit proposals that foster interdisciplinary collaborative research in areas that have direct relevance to the Pharmaceutical Life Sciences. All submitted proposals will be reviewed by the Institute’s Advisory Board and where appropriate, outside reviewers. Of those submissions, up to three (3) proposals will be selected each academic year.

Successful awardees will receive funding up to $25,000 per CSAM collaborator for a period of two years (i.e. maximum funding for a collaborative program involving two CSAM researchers is $50,000.00). Awardees will hold the title of Sokol Institute Fellow and be expected to contribute to the continuing growth and development of the Institute by presenting their research at Institute symposia and publishing findings and information in the Institute’s annual report.
