Eligibility to Register for Summer or Winter Courses

Montclair State University Students

Montclair State University undergraduate students (who are not on the May Graduation List) and graduate students who are enrolled for the spring semester, and are in good academic standing, are eligible to register for Summer Sessions courses. Undergraduate students who are on the May Graduation List must be accepted for graduate study to become eligible to register for summer courses.

Montclair State University undergraduate students and graduate students who are enrolled for the fall semester, and are in good academic standing, are eligible to register for Winter Session courses

Assigned Registration Priority will be available to Montclair State University students beginning early April for Summer Sessions or early November for Winter Session. Assigned Registration Priority is the specific date and time at which WESS registration first becomes available to a student. To access a student’s Registration Priority: log on at wfs.montclair.edu, next click WESS - Web Enrollment Services for Students, next click Enter Student Services. After Student Login, select Registration, next click Registration Status, next select appropriate term.

The following Montclair State University students must contact the Office of the Registrar to determine eligibility to register for Summer Sessions or Winter Session courses:

  • Undergraduate and graduate students who are not enrolled for the spring semester for summer sessions or fall semester for winter session;
  • Newly admitted part-time undergraduate students;
  • Newly admitted graduate students;
  • All newly admitted transfer and readmitted students.

Visiting Undergraduate and Graduate Students

Students currently enrolled in good academic standing at a regionally accredited college or university other than Montclair State University, and students who are accepted by other regionally accredited colleges or universities to begin their studies in the fall semester are eligible to become Visiting Students and register for Summer Sessions courses.

Students currently enrolled in good academic standing at a regionally accredited college or university other than Montclair State University, and who are accepted by other regionally accredited colleges or universities to begin their studies in the spring semester are eligible to become Visiting Students and register for Winter Session courses.

Students must complete the online Visiting Undergraduate Student Information Form or the Visiting Graduate/Post-baccalaureate Student Information Form available early January. AFTER the online application has been processed, the student is eligible to register for open courses anytime after the online visiting student registration period begins; mid April for summer courses or mid November for winter courses.

Registration may be completed up to and including the first day of the course as long as the course is open. Register early to decrease the possibility of being closed out of classes; the University cannot guarantee a students preferred schedule. Upon their initial registration for a course(s) offered during Summer Sessions or Winter Session, Visiting Students are charged a one time $25 processing fee.

Note: Montclair State University students have a priority registration period beginning early April for summer courses and early November for winter courses.

High School, Adult, & Non-traditional Students

  • High achieving high school students must contact the Academically Gifted and Talented Youth Programs office to determine eligibility to register for summer courses.
