How do I get the word out about an event?
Many tools are available to promote an event, depending on the audience you wish to attract. The first ones that should be employed are broadcast e-mail, the Events Calendar on the Montclair State Web site, and the news feed on your college or division’s Web site.
If an outside audience is expected at an event, contact Marketing/Graphic Services – we can design invitations, posters, flyers, programs, and signage for you. The design is free but any out-of-pocket expense for printing must be paid by the requesting department.
We can also place ads and consider requests for displays on the Valley Road LED board. For media outlet calendar listings or a press release, see the Media Relations section of this site for details and guidelines.
I need some brochures – how do I get started?
Marketing can talk with you about audiences, goals, communication vehicles, quantities, planned distribution, and budget.
The next step would be for you to write the text and have it approved by your own department/division. Then the designers can create designs using University photographs which, once approved by you, are printed by our contract vendors. Only very high resolution/quality photographs appropriately reflect our image to the marketplace so only photos from the University Photo Gallery should be used.
Can I abbreviate the University’s name to MSU?
Montclair State University’s full name (not "MSU") must appear on any materials generated by the University. On second reference, you should use “Montclair State” or “the University” (with a capital “U”).
Can I modify the logo to fit better with my specific project?
It is critically important that the logo be consistently reproduced in all applications so it may not be modified. It should always be in the approved color combinations (all black, all white, or with the crest and Montclair State in red, and the line and University in black). Downloadable versions are available online. There are guidelines for size, color, and approved alternative usages. Please see the detailed logo guideline section of the Web site. For specific needs, contact University Communications.
Can I place my own ads in the paper?
All ads for image or event promotion must be placed through University Communications-Marketing and only approved ads will be placed. Human Resources ads and Legal/Procurement ads – which are under the control of their respective departments – are the only exceptions.
Can I use my own print vendor?
The University has contracted printers who were selected during competitive bidding. For information about the bid process, see the Procurement Web site.
