Montclair State University Placement Test (MSUPT)

Note Regarding Placement Testing for Incoming Students: Montclair State University is committed to the safety and well being of our students, faculty, and staff. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, placement testing has been postponed at this time.The Academic Success Center will be providing additional information in early to mid April regarding placement testing requirements. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at asc@montclair.edu.

The MSUPT is designed to determine competency levels in reading, upper level math, and chemistry courses.

The MSUPT also provides information about your individual skills in reading, mathematics and/or chemistry. The result of this test will help you and your academic adviser in making decisions about the kinds of courses you are prepared to take. Therefore, it is very important that you perform to the best of your ability, as your scores will help determine the courses you take.

The majors listed below have required placement tests. If you are an incoming student and change your major to one on this list, please contact our office to schedule your placement test(s).

  • All majors in the School of Business (SBUS): Math Readiness Test
  • Medical Humanities: Math Readiness Test
  • Exercise Science (Clinical & Pre-Professional Studies Concentration): Math Readiness Test and Chemistry Readiness Test
