The combination of a professional major in education and an academic major in a discipline offers a rigorous and practical foundation, preparing you to make a lasting impact in the classroom and the wider community.<br \/>\nFor the Early Childhood Education major, complete a major track in our Family Science and Human Development (FHSD) Child and Lifespan Development concentration, maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA overall and within the FHSD major.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"prpl-column two-thirds\">\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer compact\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Family Science and Human Development&comma; Child and Lifespan Development concentration<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>If you enroll in our Early Childhood Education program, you\u2019ll be required to complete a concentration in our FSHD program in our College for Community Health.<\/p>\n<p>The Child and Lifespan Development concentration prepares you to pursue certification for teaching at the early childhood (P-3) or elementary (K-6) level, leaving you prepared to pursue either certification and start your career immediately following graduation. When you\u2019re done, you\u2019ll have a double major: Family Science and Early Childhood (P-3) certification to get your career started.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/programs\/child-and-lifespan-development-concentration-ba\/\">See the curriculum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer compact\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">BA&sol;MAT in Teaching Combined Degree Program<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>The Combined Bachelor\u2019s\/MAT with Dual Certification program is a 5-year program that leads to teacher certification in a desired subject area, teacher certification in Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TSD), a baccalaureate degree and a master\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/programs\/teaching-teacher-certification-grade-k-6-students-disabilities-combined-ba-mat\/\">See the curriculum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-band no-margin\"><div class=\"text-content\">\n<h2>Additional Application Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>To earn this degree, you\u2019ll also need to be admitted to Montclair\u2019s nationally recognized Teacher Education and Certification program.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>To apply, you must have:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Completed prerequisite coursework<\/li>\n<li>Have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better for a single certification program or a 3.25 cumulative GPA for the combined Bachelor\u2019s Master\u2019s with Dual Certification program<\/li>\n<li>Have the required in-major GPA for your desired program (will vary by program)<\/li>\n<li>Have completed the following courses:\n<ul>\n<li>ECEL200<\/li>\n<li>FSHD 214<\/li>\n<li>PSYC 101 or FSHD114 of EDFD 200<\/li>\n<li>9-11 credits of major coursework (Mathematics majors must complete 11 credits including Calculus I and II and MTHM 201 or a course that requires Calculus II as a prerequisite)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>If you\u2019re transferring, you must have:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>60 credits or more completed<\/li>\n<li>Completed 9-11 credits of major coursework<\/li>\n<li>Completed or are enrolled in ECEL 200<\/li>\n<li>Completed or are enrolled in FSHD 214 or approved equivalent<\/li>\n<li>A.A. or A.S. degree from a NJ two-year institution are waived from taking EDFD 220 (and EDFD 221)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>If this sounds like you, you\u2019ll need to submit:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Your completed application via the Teacher Education Program website<\/li>\n<li>Transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities.<\/li>\n<li>Your completed application essay<\/li>\n<li>One letter of recommendation from a Montclair State University faculty member<\/li>\n<li>Your resume<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once you apply and your application is reviewed, you&#8217;ll be invited to an admissions interview before a decision is made.
