Families and Counselors

Parents and Families

If you have questions and concerns about life and academics at Montclair State, you’ve come to the right place. Take some time to check out our website. It’s filled with information about everything from academic programs to on-campus housing options, tuition and fees, and athletics. You will find information about deadlines, safety and support services, scholarships and more.

We encourage you to visit us and tour our 252-acre campus. You’ll be able to make a connection with students and admissions counselors and see how your student will fit in on campus. You can take a campus tour on just about any weekday during the academic year and many Saturdays.

The New Jersey College Student and Parent Consumer Information Act requires each New Jersey four-year public college and university to display comprehensive information on the cost of attendance, the graduation rates of admitted students and the faculty of the institution.

Please keep in mind that your child is required by law to be the privileged point of contact for all admissions-related information. You can learn more about Student Privacy Rights by reading about FERPA.

Montclair State University is the first public higher-education institution in New Jersey to offer a test optional admissions policy. Find out more about our SAT/ACT Optional Policy and how it may affect the admissions process for your students.

The Admissions website gives you access to the information you need to advise your students about Montclair State University. We encourage you to contact us any time you have a question, however, the recruiter covering your school will be delighted to assist you also.

If you’re a two-year college transfer counselor, you will find our transfer admission requirements, information about the transfer process, and new recruiting programs for our prospective transfer population.

To forge an even stronger connection, we invite you to arrange for a group tour for your prospective applicants.

Save the Date: Annual Counselor Workshop, Friday, December 6, 2019.

Application Fee Waivers

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions waives the undergraduate admissions application fee in cases of financial hardship. Students who indicate they meet any of the criteria for hardship on the application will not be assessed a fee. One criteria is “my guidance counselor will provide a letter certifying my financial hardship.” If you are providing a letter of support for a student to receive a fee waiver, simply include it with their transcript and other application materials. Students who meet at least one other criteria do not require a letter of support.

Please be sure that your name and Login ID are referenced on the waiver and sent to:

Attn: Undergraduate Admissions
Montclair State University
1 Normal Ave, Dickson Hall
Montclair, NJ 07043

Please allow two weeks for us to receive and process your fee waiver.

You can also submit the National Association for College Admissions Counseling Fee Waiver form.
