Record Number of Fulbright Students Choose Montclair State

Montclair State University has 17 Fulbright scholarship graduate students from overseas countries studying on campus for the 2011/12 academic year, the University’s largest contingent ever.

New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame Inducts Two Montclair State Research Scientists

When Montclair State University research scientists Lynn Schneemeyer and John Siekierka were formally inducted into the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame on October 27 at the W-Hotel in Hoboken, they joined the ranks of leading New Jersey inventors including Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Herman Sokol, and James Hillier. Newly Renovated for the Modern Classroom, Finley Hall to Reopen as Conrad J. Schmitt Hall

The sounds and signs of construction are about to come to an end for yet another building on the Montclair State University campus. Finley Hall has been under construction as part of a complete renovation since September 2010, and is expected to be ready for classes when the spring 2012 semester begins in January. Montclair State “Made All the Difference in the World”:
Anne Albert Miller ’45 Supports Her Alma Mater through her IRA

Times have certainly changed at Montclair State since Anne Albert Miller ’45 was a student during World War II. “Tuition my first year was $50, plus $345 for room and board,” she recalls. “There weren’t many men around because of the war.”

But while much has changed since Anne’s student days, the enduring values of education and opportunity are still strong at the University. That’s why Anne has been a longtime Annual Fund supporter and also has made a bequest in her will for her alma mater. [View full details]

Montclair State Alumna Carol ‘The Blaze’ Blazejowski ’78 a Nominee for New Jersey Hall of Fame

The New Jersey Hall of Fame recently announced 50 nominees for the Class of 2012, which includes entertainment legends, inventors, sports heroes, artists, historical figures, business leaders, and more.

Among this list of illustrious New Jerseyans is Montclair State’s own Carol “The Blaze” Blazejowski ’78, who was nominated in the Sports category along with coaches Bill Parcells and Bob Hurley, Giants owner Wellington Mara, broadcasting icons Dick Vitale and Ed Sabol, track star Mary Decker Slaney, football greats Milt Campbell and Rosy Grier, and baseball legend Monte Irvin. Schoenig, Kelly, Popes, Romanko Elected to Montclair State Athletic Hall of Fame

The Montclair State Department of Athletics will add four new members into its Hall of Fame as current baseball coach Norm Schoenig headlines the latest class into the Hall of Fame, which celebrates its 40 anniversary this year. Schoenig, Kevin Kelly (football), Stephanie Romanko (women’s soccer/softball) and Laura Popes (field hockey) comprise the 39th class to be inducted bringing the total number of members to 199. Field Hockey Places Four on All-NJAC Team, Gottung Named Coach of the Year

Head coach Beth Gottung was named the Coach of the Year while four players earned All-Conference honors as the New Jersey Athletic Conference unveiled its 2011 All-Conference Field Hockey Team on Thursday.

Senior defender Chelsea Keelen (Tinton Falls, NJ / Middletown South), sophomore forward Brittany Carroll (Kingston, NY / Rondout Valley) and sophomore Jennifer Tafro (Little Falls, NJ / Passaic Valley) were named to the First Team while junior goalkeeper Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) was tabbed Honorable Mention. Ellen Cahill '08 MEd

Imagine entering a classroom where students are excitedly debating the philosophical distinction between a “need” and a “want,” offering their own perspectives and building on each other’s ideas. Now, imagine these students are just five years old. Such an environment exists in kindergarten teacher Ellen Cahill’s classroom at the Bradford School in Montclair, New Jersey. For her ability in using the humanities to engage students, Cahill—who earned a Master in Education with a concentration in Philosophy for Children from Montclair State University—has been named the 2011 Teacher of the Year by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities (NJCH). Louis A. Ramunno '91

Louis A. Ramunno is a Principal of Deloitte Tax LLP in the Private Equity Advisory Services Group located in New York City where he serves some of the firm’s largest alternative asset management clients. Lou also serves as the National Leader of the firm's Private Equity Tax Practice. Lou’s primary area of specialty is in providing income tax planning and compliance services to private equity funds, merchant banking firms, and other similar investment management firms. He also has substantial experience in the area of partnership taxation, with an emphasis on the use of partnerships in restructurings, acquisitions, dispositions, and IPOs. In this capacity, Lou has had the privilege of working on some of the most significant industry transactions of the last decade, including several of the recent landmark alternative asset management initial public offerings.[View full details]
