Come Back to Campus for Homecoming and Family Day
A schedule of the day's events include a Family Brunch (if you are a parent or guardianhomecominglogo10 of a current or incoming student, this event is for you), the Homecoming Parade through the campus to the amphitheater, a BBQ and carnival with activities for you and your family, campus tours, athletics events including soccer and football featuring a half time presentation recognizing the 1960 football team, and a performance of Kaleidescope.

President Cole Appointed to Great Falls Advisory Council
coleapptMontclair State University President Susan A. Cole has been appointed to the eight-member advisory commission for the Great Falls National Historical Park. Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr., the sponsor of the legislation that established the park, presented the advisory commission members on July 16 saying, “The members of this commission are experienced individuals who represent our diverse community…their input will be critical.”

Coccia Institute Announces Award
The Coccia Institute for the Italian American Experience, a component of CHSS, announces that Cav. Joseph Coccia, in partnership with Mr. Lawrence (Larry) Inserra, have donated the funds necessary to establish an annual prize to honor an outstanding teacher of Italian at the K-12 level. The Coccia-Inserra Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Teaching of Italian (K-12) will bestow upon the selected recipient’s school $1000 to be used to advance its curriculum and programming in Italian language and culture.

Women's Soccer Gets New Head Coach
The Montclair State Department of Athletics has announced the hiring Pat Naughter as the new head women’s soccer coach. Naughter becomes the fifth head coach in the history of the program and takes over for Eileen Blair, who stepped down after 12 seasons in May. Naughter is no stranger to Montclair State having played for the Red Hawks from 1996-1999. He also spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the men’s team.

Men's Lacrosse Players Earn All-American Honors
Last season, the Montclair State men's lacrosse program earned its first All-America honor as goalkeeper Thomas Bowers was named to the team by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). That number grew to four on Wednesday as seniors Taylor Bonner (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) and Patrick Ferry (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) and junior Robert Sinicola (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) were named to the 2010 version.

Former Red Hawk Baseball Player Signs with Seattle Mariners
Former Montclair State pitcher Michael Vitale recently signed a minor-league contract with the Seattle Mariners. Vitale becomes the first Red Hawk to sign with an affiliated Major League Baseball club since Michael Vicaro signed with the Colorado Rockies during the 2007 season. Vitale will report to Pulaski, Virginia where he will pitch in the Appalachian Rookie League.
