50th and 50+ Reunion Celebration
A new annual tradition began this year when members of the classes of 1961 and earlier (50th and “50 plus” reunion classes) were invited back to campus to celebrate their milestone anniversaries at a reunion luncheon. The day was a great opportunity for alumni to renew old friendships, reminisce, and experience all the exciting changes that have taken place at Montclair State University since their student days. [View full article]

Commencement and Convocations 2011
Montclair State University held its 2011 Commencement exercises on Friday, May 20, at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, conferring 3,928 degrees in science and mathematics, humanities and the social sciences, business, the arts, and education. The University conferred 2,901 baccalaureate degrees, 1,013 master’s degrees, and 14 doctoral degrees at the event.

The Newark-Montclair Urban Teacher Residency Program
at a glance

Last year, Susan Taylor ′82, director of the Newark-Montclair Urban Teacher Residency Program (NMUTR) at Montclair State University, retired after 37 years as a teacher and principal in the Newark public school system. At the time, she had plans to pursue her studies as a student in the University's Ed.D. in Teacher Education and Teacher Development program.  But those retirement plans were put on hold when Taylor received an offer from Dean Ada Beth Cutler of the College of Education and Human Services and Executive Director Jennifer Robinson of the College's Center of Pedagogy to direct the NMUTR program.

A collection of yearbooks and related documents beginning with The Palatine 1919 from the Sprague Library Archives, a repository for many of the documents relating to the history of Montclair State College/University, are available online at

Attorney Alumni Network Event
The Montclair State University Attorney Alumni Network event will take place on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the University Conference Center high atop University Hall with a panoramic view of Manhattan. We hope that you can join us for hors d’oeuvres and cash bar.

If you are a Montclair State University alumnus/a who has completed undergraduate or graduate programs at Montclair State and have gone on to become an attorney, please complete this survey to assist us as we work to build the Montclair State Attorney Alumni Network. Ben Samuels Children's Center
Opens New Pre-school Room
The Ben Samuels Children's Center at Montclair State University is opening a new preschool room next September, and currently has a few remaining openings for 3 and 4 year olds. The program is 3 or 5 days, and the Center is open for 12 months during the year. Center hours are 7:30 am - 6:15pm. The Center is staffed by certified teachers and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
