{"id":211384,"date":"2022-09-16T14:55:03","date_gmt":"2022-09-16T18:55:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/alumni\/?p=211384"},"modified":"2022-09-16T14:55:03","modified_gmt":"2022-09-16T18:55:03","slug":"celebrating-national-hispanic-heritage-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/alumni\/2022\/09\/16\/celebrating-national-hispanic-heritage-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 \u2013 October 15) Montclair State University will celebrate its diverse and dynamic Latinx community with a series of events focusing on both culture and challenges, while commemorating Latinx pride.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme for Hispanic\/Latinx Heritage Month is\u00a0<em>Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As Associate Provost for Hispanic Initiatives Katia Paz Goldfarb puts it: \u201cThis year\u2019s theme, reminds us that\u00a0<em>en la uni\u00f3n est\u00e1 la fuerza<\/em>, together we are stronger and the need for inclusivity within and outside our communities. This month gives us an opportunity to share, recognize and celebrate\u00a0<em>de donde venimos y a d\u00f3nde vamos<\/em>\u00a0[where we come from and where we are going] as an intrinsic part of the society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Events are sponsored by various organizations and programs, including the Office for Hispanic Initiatives, the Latin American Student Organization, the Hispanic\/Latinx Alumni Network, Latinx Caucus, the Office of Alumni Engagement, and Latinx Greek and student organizations, and include a flag raising, a luncheon, and cultural discussions (both in-person and online).<\/p>\n<p>Check the\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/hispanic-initiatives\/hispanic-heritage-month\/\" target=\"_blank\">Office for Hispanic Initiatives website<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/calendar\/?date=2022-09-29&amp;view=day&amp;calendar=null\" target=\"_blank\">University calendar<\/a>\u00a0for updates.<\/p>\n<h2>Calendar of Events<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>Monday, Sept. 19, 11:45 a.m. \u2013 1 p.m.<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Hispanic\/Latinx Heritage Month Procession\/Flag Raising Ceremony\/Reception<br \/>\nIn-person Event | Multiple Locations<\/strong>\u00a0(see below)<br \/>\nJoin the Office for Hispanic Initiatives, Latinx Caucus, LASO (Latin American Student Organization) and Latinx Greek and student organizations.
