Applying as a new undergraduate?<\/div>

Prospective students (either freshman<\/strong> or transfer students<\/strong> not currently accepted to Montclair State University) interested in majoring in one of the academic programs in the Department of Art and Design (A+D) should take these steps:<\/p>\n

    Contact University Admissions<\/h3>\n

    Email the Undergraduate Admission Office<\/a> for information about applications and general Montclair State University admission requirements.<\/p>\n

    When you are ready: Start your application<\/a>.<\/p><\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Submit Your Application<\/h3>\n

    Submit your application for general admission to Montclair State<\/a> indicating that you would like to major in one of the Department’s programs (review A+D academic programs<\/a>). Once you select your intended major in the School, you will be prompted to also complete that program\u2019s specific application requirements. In general, competitive applicants to the Department’s programs possess a 3.0 GPA, have a rich record of extra-curricular activities, provide insightful responses to the essay questions and other prompts, and submit a quality portfolio.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Refer to these portfolio guidelines<\/a>\u00a0(including additional requirements by major) prior to starting your University application.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

    Changing your major?<\/div>
    \n

    Current Montclair State students<\/strong> wishing to change their major<\/strong> to one of the programs in the Department of Art and Design must apply online as well.<\/p>\n

    We recommend that applicants carefully review their intended program of study (review A+D academic programs<\/a>). In general, competitive applicants to the Department’s programs possess a 3.0 GPA, have a rich record of extra-curricular activities, provide insightful responses to the essay questions and other prompts, and submit a quality portfolio.<\/p>\n

    To begin the process, contact the coordinator or director of your desired program<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    Current Montclair State students<\/strong>\u00a0wishing to\u00a0change their major<\/strong>\u00a0to one of the programs in the Department of Art and Design must apply online.<\/p>\n

    Transfer to BFA Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n

    A portfolio and a 3.0 GPA are required.\u00a0Refer to these\u00a0portfolio guidelines<\/a>\u00a0prior to starting your application.<\/p>\n

    Transfer to BA Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n

    BA programs do not require a portfolio; however, the BA in Fashion Design and Merchandising and the BA in Visual Arts require a 2.75 GPA for a change of major.<\/p>\n

    Adding a minor?<\/div>
    \n

    Students from any major at the University<\/strong>\u00a0may add a Fashion minor with a 2.75 GPA or higher. The Visual Arts minor is only available to students majoring outside of the Department of Art and Design.<\/p>\n
