Dean's Corner - Fall 2013

Just over a year ago, I joined Montclair State University as its new dean of the College of the Arts.  Working with the college community has been exciting and rewarding – not to mention a huge amount of fun! Not only are we doing what we do best, but we’re doing more of it and launching some new initiatives along the way.

Globally, our collaborations with international partners are bearing much fruit. Read how visitors from far-away places have transported our students towards more worldly appreciation and diverse innovation.  Both on and beyond the campus, our students are contributing award-winning designs, a town-based mural and generally using their talents to make a difference in the community.

Check out the latest news and accomplishments of our faculty, students, and alumni in the On the Move segments of our newsletter (see right-side links.) The Department of Theatre and Dance has an outstanding lineup of productions while the Cali School of Music is gearing up for its Carnegie Hall concert. The Department of Art and Design’s Fashion Studies students will be visiting European fashion centers and the School of Communication and Media just launched its WiredJersey news Web site.

To experience more student work online, be sure to visit the College on iTunesU where you will find links to film projects, exhibition slide shows, plus performance clips and podcasts. Our new events calendar is online too!

I hope that, as you read along, you'll discover reasons to become even more involved with the College of the Arts at Montclair State.  I look forward to seeing you very soon on campus.

With all best wishes,
Daniel Gurskis
