Department of Theatre and Dance - Spring 2015

News Highlights...

The Spring Semester is keeping us busy here in the Department of Theatre and Dance. We are in the middle of a very ambitious performance season with six productions, workshops and readings remaining. We are staring this semester with a New Play Festival in support of emerging playwrights and the development of new plays.  In the Alexander Kasser Theater, we proudly presented The Winter’s Tale directed by guest director Michael Bloom. Rehearsals for Dance Collage and Danceworks, our annual dance concerts, are well under way and we are excited to present works by Earl Mosley, Sean Curran, Larry Keigwin and José Limón. Hair will be presented in Memorial Auditorium and it is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Our former students are making their mark -- on Broadway, no less -- and making us proud all over again. (Read more here.)

Our dance students will once again participate in the American College Dance Festival (ACDF) at West Chester University, Pa., in March, and many of our theatre students just returned from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival at Cleveland State University in January. (Read more in the "People Spotlights" section below.)
Many of the Production and Design students will be going to Czech Republic to participate in the Prague Quadrennial (PQ). This program includes an 11-day, study-abroad experience centered around an international exhibition and symposium of design for the stage. The PQ is a place where international performance professionals, students and spectators can meet and exchange ideas with their colleagues, designers, as well as with artists and experts from other fields. The experience will give our students a complex view into today’s performance, performance design and spaces for performance.
There is so much more that we are excited about. We hope to see you in the theatre.
