Adele, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga...and Montclair State

University Included Among 2012 Grammy Nominees

Montclair, NJ (December 2, 2011)—The nominees for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards have been announced and the names of John J. Cali School of Music Professor Robert Aldridge and the Montclair State University Singers appear among them.

Heading the nominations for Montclair State is Robert Aldridge and his opera Elmer Gantry, which received a nomination for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. Additionally, the CD of the opera, “Aldridge: Elmer Gantry,” received a nomination as Best Engineered Album, Classical; and the CD’s producer, Blanton Alspaugh, received a nomination for Producer of the Year, Classical.

“I am truly honored to have been nominated for Best Contemporary Composition in this year's Grammy Awards, given that there were so many superb composers on the ballot,” says Aldridge. “I must also thank everyone at the John J. Cali School of Music, Peak Performances and Montclair State University who worked on the original 2007-08 production of Elmer Gantry. Without their amazing and considerable efforts, the Naxos recording of the Milwaukee production and these three nominations never would have happened.”

In addition to the nominations for Aldridge and Elmer Gantry, Montclair State figured in yet another. The Montclair State University Singers, led by Professor Heather Buchanan, are heard on a CD for which producer Manfred Eicher received a nomination for Producer of the Year, Classical. The CD is Meredith Monk’s "Songs Of Ascension," with Meredith Monk, the Todd Reynolds Quartet, and the M6 and Montclair State University Singers.
