{"id":208914,"date":"2021-09-30T14:39:26","date_gmt":"2021-09-30T18:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/arts\/?p=208914"},"modified":"2021-10-04T14:40:14","modified_gmt":"2021-10-04T18:40:14","slug":"wmsc-celebrates-world-college-radio-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/arts\/2021\/09\/30\/wmsc-celebrates-world-college-radio-day\/","title":{"rendered":"WMSC Celebrates World College Radio Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Montclair State\u2019s WMSC 90.3 FM is collaborating with more than 600 stations in 40 countries for the 11th annual\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/live365.com\/station\/World-College-Radio-Day-a29386\" target=\"_blank\">World College Radio Day (WCRD)<\/a>\u00a0powered by Live365 on Friday, October 1. The station will host 34 hours of special programming as part of the initiative that will feature on-air talent, exclusive celebrity interviews and music performances. In addition, the station will close out the 24-hour Global WCRD marathon with the station\u2019s first college radio musical \u201cThe Nightmare Before World College Radio Day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WMSC\u2019s World College Radio Day event kicks off Thursday, September 30 at 6 p.m. EDT and ends at 4 a.m EDT on Saturday, October 2. Highlights from the station\u2019s programming and participation include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A special two-hour edition of The Morning Buzz.<\/li>\n<li>Golf cart karaoke.<\/li>\n<li>A live dodgeball game between the student management team and general members.<\/li>\n<li>Two hours of exclusive interviews &amp; three live performances.<\/li>\n<li>A simulcast en Espa\u00f1ol produced by WMSC students and staff.<\/li>\n<li>A special edition of WCBS 880\u2019s Tom Kaminski and his exclusive WMSC show \u201cBack To The Future.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The premiere of an original musical telling the story of one heroine that revives the world of college radio with the help of her best friend, the Daft Punk duo and a penguin named Joe.<\/li>\n<li>WMSC is contributing thirteen celebrity interviews to the two-part English simulcast.<\/li>\n<li>One of only four college radio stations in the United States selected to participate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The mission of World College Radio Day is to harness the combined listenership of hundreds of thousands of college radio listeners throughout the world and celebrate the important contribution of college radio by uniting for one day.<\/p>\n<p>To help spread the word for the worldwide event, WMSC has produced a \u201cThis is Spinal Tap\u201d \u2014 inspired promotional video; encouraging listeners to unleash the amp-level 11 energy inside them.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Video: THIS GOES TO 11\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XeoJbN9smMI?feature=oembed\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen style=\"width: 500px; height: 281px; border: 0px solid #000;\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m proud of the work my students produced and proposed that led to the station being selected to be part of global broadcast,\u201d says Anabella Poland, General Manager at WMSC FM. \u201cWorld College Radio Day showcases our students\u2019 full creativity and potential magnified by the ample resources from the School of Communication and Media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCelebrating World College Radio Day is one of the most vital memories you experience throughout your time at WMSC, allowing students to showcase their talents and personalities in a way they haven\u2019t before,\u201d says student station manager Kaya Maciak. \u201cImagine your senior-year musical theatre performance or last homecoming game but ten times more grand, that\u2019s World College Radio Day. It\u2019s a time when the entire station gathers together and hosts an array of activities to showcase the diverse and creative parts of the station, not solely for potential award recognition but for the pure joy of being a college radio member.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This theme of the 2021 WCRD is Resilient Radio to highlight the challenges students, faculty and staff have overcome since last spring. This year\u2019s WCRD official ambassador is multi-Grammy award winner, music and comedy legend, and college radio alum,\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/wmsc\/weirdal\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cWeird Al\u201d Yankovic<\/a>.
