{"id":2485,"date":"2023-07-24T10:04:11","date_gmt":"2023-07-24T14:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/business\/?page_id=2485"},"modified":"2023-07-24T10:04:11","modified_gmt":"2023-07-24T14:04:11","slug":"accounting-concentration-certificate","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/business\/accounting-concentration-certificate\/","title":{"rendered":"Accounting Concentration &amp; Certificate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Accounting Concentration<\/strong><br \/>\nThe concentration provides MBA students with an understanding of financial statements from a user\u2019s perspective and does not provide adequate credits or learning to prepare for the CPA exam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Accounting Concentration courses (9 credits)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students with a non-Accounting undergraduate degree should complete:<br \/>\nACCT 520 &#8211; Contemp Issues\/Fin Acct I (Prerequisite: ACCT 560 Accounting for Business Managers)<br \/>\nACCT 521 &#8211; Contemp Issues\/Fin Acct II (Prerequisite: ACCT 520)<br \/>\nACCT 523 &#8211; Financial Statement Analysis<\/p>\n<p>Students with an Accounting undergraduate degree can select any other 9 credits from the list of Accounting electives with permission of the Accounting Department Chairperson.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Accounting Certificate<\/strong><br \/>\nThe graduate certificate program is a non-CPA track set of accounting courses designed principally for individuals currently in the workforce who want to enhance their accounting knowledge and education. This certificate consists of the courses included in the Accounting Concentration plus two additional courses.<\/p>\n<p>MBA students interested in this offering should declare the Accounting concentration AND apply for the Accounting Certificate. By completing the courses below, you will satisfy the requirements for both the concentration AND the certificate.<\/p>\n<p>Accounting Certificate courses (15 credits):<br \/>\nACCT 520 &#8211; Contemp Issues\/Fin Acct I (Prerequisite: ACCT 560 Accounting for Business Managers)<br \/>\nACCT 521 &#8211; Contemp Issues\/Fin Acct II (Prerequisite: ACCT 520)<br \/>\nACCT 523 &#8211; Financial Statement Analysis<br \/>\n<strong>Plus<\/strong><br \/>\nACCT 512 &#8211; Fundamentals of Federal Taxation<br \/>\nACCT 524 &#8211; Auditing Concepts and Techniques<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professional Accounting Certificate<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Professional Accounting Certificate Program is designed to satisfy the NJ State Board requirement of 24 credits in accounting education which is one of several education requirements to qualify to sit for the CPA exam. This certificate consists of the courses included in the Accounting Certificate plus two additional courses.<\/p>\n<p>MBA students interested in this offering should declare the Accounting Concentration AND apply for the Professional Accounting Certificate. By completing the courses below, you will satisfy the requirements for both the concentration AND this certificate.<\/p>\n<p>Professional Accounting Certificate courses (24 credits, including ACCT 560 Accounting for Business Managers):<br \/>\nACCT 512 &#8211; Fundamentals of Federal Taxation<br \/>\nACCT 520 &#8211; Contemp Issues\/Fin Acct I (Prerequisite: ACCT 560 Accounting for Business Managers)<br \/>\nACCT 521 &#8211; Contemp Issues\/Fin Acct II (Prerequisite: ACCT 520)<br \/>\nACCT 523 &#8211; Financial Statement Analysis<br \/>\nACCT 524 &#8211; Auditing Concepts and Techniques<br \/>\nPlus<br \/>\nACCT 510 &#8211; Accounting Information Systems<br \/>\nACCT 539 &#8211; Advanced Audit Analytics<\/p>\n<p><strong>Forensic Accounting Certificate<\/strong><br \/>\nThis certificate program ONLY accepts applications from individuals with undergraduate degrees in accounting. Applications from individuals with undergraduate degrees in finance with relative work experience will also be carefully considered.<\/p>\n<p>MBA students interested in this offering should declare the Accounting concentration AND apply for the Forensic Accounting Certificate.
