{"id":1198,"date":"2022-10-06T11:51:01","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T15:51:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/business\/?p=1198"},"modified":"2023-08-01T09:38:01","modified_gmt":"2023-08-01T13:38:01","slug":"developing-building-blocks-for-self-marketing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/business\/2022\/10\/06\/developing-building-blocks-for-self-marketing\/","title":{"rendered":"Developing Building Blocks For Self-Marketing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fear of failure is one of the biggest obstacles that hold people back in life, fueling self-doubt and leading to a pattern of procrastination that can prevent one from meeting their goals.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back at his career, accounting executive and entrepreneur Greg Collins said overcoming that challenge requires stepping out of one\u2019s comfort zone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[In] a lot of situations I didn\u2019t have a choice,\u201d he added. \u201cI had to do it whether or not I wanted to or I thought I could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Noting that every position he held or client he has worked with required him to know how to properly market himself, his business, and skills, Collins, who\u00a0has logged more than three decades providing financial accounting and tax services to high-income individuals, business entities and not for profit organizations,\u00a0offered 10 elements that helped move his career forward.<\/p>\n<p>Collins, a graduate of the Feliciano School of Business, offered students the road map in his speech, \u201cEffectively Marketing Yourself \u2013 Your Most Important Sale\u201d during the final\u00a0 MBA Executive Speaker Series for the Fall 2021 semester.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his business experience, Collins is the Chair of the Montclair State University Foundation Board of Trustees, which supports university fundraising and capital campaigns, sponsors more than 350 annual scholarships, and underwrites a variety of programs rewarding excellent teaching and scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Building on both his skills and passion, Collins has held executive positions at Columbia Pictures and AT&amp;T Inc., and served as the chief financial officer for Stevie Wonder\u2019s business organization. A large part of his career has been working in the sports and entertainment industry, working with celebrity clients such as rap artists Busta Rhymes and Sean Combs, who also goes by Puff Daddy, broadcaster Wendy Williams and\u00a0Paul D.
