Eight students and three alumni members volunteered more than 650 hours at United Way of Passaic County (UWPC) to prepare federal tax returns at no charge. They donated their expertise under the VITA program, an IRS initiative that helps low-to-moderate income individuals, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and other underserved groups. The Feliciano team prepared approximately 350 of the 1,003 returns processed and quality reviewed around 250.<\/p>\n<p>Two other students, Jennifer Cortes and Yusef Abufasha, were paid VITA Site Coordinators. Cortes, a volunteer with UWPC since high school, was previously awarded the President\u2019s Volunteer Service Award. Inaugurated in 2003, the award recognizes those making their communities a better place.
