David Opdyke lives and works in Ridgewood, Queens. Growing up in Schenectady, NY in the 1970’s and 80's, Opdyke witnessed the collapse of manufacturing in the city and the sprawl of suburban developments bulldozing over surrounding woods and farmland. Those images of transformation and decay permeate his work today. After his BFA in Painting from the University of Cincinnati, he moved to New York, working as a scenic painter and architectural model maker during the day to support his art habit. Roebling Hall, an upstart gallery a block away from his loft in Williamsburg, gave him his first big break in 1999.  He quit his day job in 2004.  Opdyke has also worked with Ronald Feldman Gallery in Soho, and is now represented by Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in Chelsea. He works in a wide range of media and scales, from hyper-realistic models and complex sculptures to intricate ink drawings and large-scale installations.
