If you have waived the insurance in the fall 2014 semester, it is not necessary to waive in the spring. Waivers are completed onceevery academic year.

Pursuant to New Jersey law, Montclair State University is required to offer student health insurance coverage to its full-time undergraduate and graduate students as defined by the University (12 or more credits for undergraduate, 9 or more credits for graduate). The current plan being offered for Academic Year 2014-2015 is through United Healthcare.

With the passage of the Federal Patient and Affordability Care Act (PPACA), the Federal Government now requires that all citizens be covered by a PPACA compliant plan or they will be subject to tax liabilities beginning January 2014. Effective fall 2013, Montclair State University will continue to offer all full-time students health insurance through United Health Care.

Unfortunately, part-time students no longer have an opportunity to purchase insurance through United Health Care. However, part time students who wish to purchase an individual insurance policy can find information on the following link:

Enrollment/Waiver Information

Full time students are automatically billed for the full amount of the insurance on their term bill by the Office of Student Accounts. If you already have health insurance coverage through your parents, spouse or employer, you may opt to waive the Health Insurance Fee by completing a Health Insurance Waiver form online at www.firststudent.com.  You must waive or enroll in the school-sponsored insurance plan each academic year.

If after completing the waiver, your information changes you will need to resubmit the updates via fax (973) 655-4421 or email waiverinsure@mail.montclair.edu.  You will not be able to complete another waiver. If you do not receive a confirmation email, your waiver was not successfully submitted.  It is important that you review your bill on WESS periodically to ensure your account is credited after completing a waiver. The Office of Student Accounts will send reminder emails to students that have not completed a waiver, this will be the only form of notification you will receive. It is very important that you review your MSU email and take action by the posted deadline.

If you need your insurance PRIOR to the automatic enrollment, please go to ttp://www.firststudent.com/schools/MontclairStateUniversity.htm and follow the Enrollment Instructions. You will be able to print a ID card within 24 hours.  If you need insurance but do not need to enroll before the start of the semester, you will automatically be enrolled. United Health Care will email you your login information to print out your insurance cards. UHC will no longer mail insurance card.
