In Other Wor(l)ds: Jhumpa Lahiri on the Italian Language and Culture as a Place of Creative Freedom
Pulitzer-Prize Winner - Jhumpa Lahiri
For three years Ms. Lahiri lived in Rome, exploring issues of language, culture, and belonging through "Italian eyes," which has only enriched her established inquiry into the complexities of her mixed background, as an Indian and American.
A Personal Journey To Other Worlds and Words
Lahiri's decision to learn a foreign language - in this case, Italian - and write a book in it (In altre parole) will be the starting point for a conversation on issues of displacement and relocation as part of a personal journey to other worlds and other words.
This will be Lahiri's first public appearance since her return from Italy and being awarded the National Humanities Medal at the White House this month.
