The three newest members of the School of Communication and Media will discuss their cutting edge research/work.

Thomas E. Franklin joins the faculty of the School of Communication and Media as an Assistant Professor in Multiplatform Journalism, bringing a wealth of journalism experience to his teaching after nearly 30-years as an award winning news photographer and video journalist. For the past 23-years he worked for The Record and the newspaper’s website Northjersey.com covering a wide range of assignments, including 9/11, hurricane disasters, Presidential inaugurations, the Super Bowl, the World Series, and the NBA and NHL Finals. His work has been recognized by national organizations such as Picture of the Year International, National Press Photographers Association, and the Society of Professional Journalists.


Dr. Marylou Naumoff is an Assistant Professor in Communication Studies and the Coordinator of the Fundamentals of Speech Program. Her specialization is rhetorical studies, cultural studies, gender studies, and popular culture.  Dr. Naumoff’s research focuses on citizenship, race, and masculinity, specifically examining popular culture as a site of national discourse where citizens look to understand and construct American identity, as well as, form a sense of community. She is currently working on a book manuscript that examines the impact of hip hop on American masculinity and national identity.


Anabella Poland serves as General Manager of WMSC-FM. Before joining Montclair State University, Ms. Poland was Director of Talent & Industry Relations at SiriusXM Radio where she negotiated and managed interviews, events and performances with A-level Hollywood actors, celebrities and musicians for more than 135 SiriusXM channels. Prior to joining SiriusXM, she was a Segment Producer at ABC News Good Morning America where she booked and produced breaking news, cultural stories, entertainment and the summer concert series. Her work has also appeared on ABC World News, 20/20 and Nightline. She often contributed stories to abcnews.com and to the first network initiative aimed at Hispanic audiences, ABC News Exclusiva. Ms. Poland continues her work as a US correspondent for “El Exprimidor,” an award-winning news and current events radio show in Argentina. As an on-air talent since 2002, she has reported on three US Presidential Elections, the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars, relevant breaking news, feature stories and  entertainment news. She served on the Community Advisory Board (CAB) for WFUV, the public radio station licensed to Fordham University, for five years.
