Dr. Belay Ejigu Begashaw

Dr. Begashaw is Director for Columbia University’s Global Centres | Africa and sits on the SDSN Leadership Council and SDSN Executive Committee. In this presentation, Dr. Begashaw will discuss how Montclair State University’s research activities can help achieve Sustainable Development Goals by connecting to Sustainable Development Goal Centers that he works to establish across Africa and around the world. He will explain the aims of the SDG mission for the coming 15 years and how our work can be supported by SDG Centers whose themes include population dynamics, macroeconomics, poverty, health, food security, biodiversity, oceans, ecosystems services, resilient cities, and more.

Dr. Begashaw has served in several ministerial positions for the Government of Ethiopia, including Minister of State for Agriculture, in which he worked to establish food security. He earned his Ph.D. in agricultural policy from Texas A&M University as a Borlaug Fellow, MPA from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, MSc from University of Reading, and BSc from Addis Ababa University.
