We All Belong Here: Immigration Policy and its Impact on Urban Education

Ariana Mangual Figueroa, PhD, will spotlight the voices of undocumented students not often heard in educational discussions of equity and social justice. How does legal citizenship status shape the lives of children and adolescents? What are our responsibilities as teachers in public schools serving all students regardless of status? This talk will address these questions by providing ethnographic evidence of the ways in which citizenship status and educational practices affect the participation of children and families in schools. Mangual Figueroa will suggest ways in which educators play and important role in caring for students with uncertain legal status, and will call on educators to assume more responsibility in this area.

Registration is required for this event.

Ariana Mangual Figueroa, PhD, is an associate professor in the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University.
