Sundays with William Goldman: The Princess Bride
A four part screening and lecture series with acclaimed film critic Stephen Whitty. "Nobody knows anything" was screenwriter William Goldman's famous summation of Hollywood, but Goldman must have known something to have the career that he did -- two dozen produced screenplays, two Oscars and numerous other awards. We'll spend four Sundays looking at this late legend's famous films, and his own insights into the art of storytelling.
The Princess Bride ( 1987) - Goldman began his career as a novelist, and would continue to turn out books and plays in between movie assignments. It would take more than a decade - and the efforts of one of its fans, Rob Reiner - to bring this favorite novel to the screen. Goldman adapted it himself, deftly mixing fantasy and farce with the painful quest of faithful son Inigo Montoya.
