Join us at the 2019 Green Team Launch where you can meet this year's Green Teams, host organizations, engage in sustainability networking and hear from our inspiring keynote guest.

Keynote Guest: Timothy Carter, President of Second Nature

Tim Carter is the president of Second Nature. As president, he has led Second Nature's strategic efforts to accelerate climate action of the higher education sector. This includes a renewed focus on performance of the Climate Leadership Network through network design, climate services, and cross-sector leadership.

Prior to Second Nature, Dr. Carter was the founding director of Butler University’s Center for Urban Ecology (CUE) and built the CUE into a thriving academic center with over $3M in externally funded initiatives. The CUE became not only a successful place for the study of ecology, but also a participant in increasing the sustainability of the city and campus. CUE projects include collaborative installations between artists and scientists for informal science learning, creation of a community currency to encourage urban watershed conservation action, and the use of mobile device technology as an engagement strategy for residents of the city. The CUE also led efforts to develop Butler’s climate strategy including signing Second Nature's Carbon Commitment, developing Butler’s Climate Action Plan, and hiring Butler’s first sustainability officer.

Dr. Carter received his Ph.D. in Ecology with distinction from the Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia (UGA) and completed his B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He lives in Cambridge, MA with his wife Katy and three children.
