The private club business is a unique segment in the hospitality industry. The HSET Executive Speaker Series will host an informative and interactive discussion on private club management and careers in private clubs. Students will meet Phil Wheeler, Assistant General Manager for Baltusrol Golf Club one of the most well-known and
prestigious golf clubs in the world. He will discuss the operation of a private club, the special challenges, rewards and opportunities for a career in the club industry.

Please join us on December 4th at 3PM (SBUS 101)for the Hospitality, Sports, Events and Tourism Executive Speaker Series presentation.  Our guest speaker is Phil Wheeler and will be discussing careers in club management.  Mr. Wheeler was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma in a home where cooking was something to be celebrated and enjoyed, Phil easily grew into a passion for hospitality and service. Building that young interest into more of a sustainable career path was a natural move for Phil. He spent many hours in his youth cooking and learning the basics in restaurant kitchens. Phil was accepted to the Hotel and Restaurant Administration program at Oklahoma State University, where he continued to develop his love for hospitality, and ultimately for the club industry, through related college experiences and then a brand new job at Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.

After a year at OKCGCC, Phil was promoted to a senior-level leadership position as the Clubhouse Manager. Through his years at OKCGCC, Phil has successfully cultivated relationships with both the staff and members to ensure that everyone who is a part of the club has an enjoyable and memorable experience. Phil has created a collaborative work environment between the front and back of house, which has led to a unique and positive space for both staff and members to feel like they are home. He has dedicated his time to inspiring hard work and motivation in coworkers and an overall rise in financial success for the club. His investment, commitment and excitement for hospitality and clubs is contagious, and he is looking forward to sharing that with the staff and members of Baltusrol Golf Club.
