Dr. Yuri Koboziev, Texas Tech University, presents this seminar.

About the Seminar

My research projects are focused on the role that gut bacteria play in pathogenesis of chronic inflammation in obesity and other diseases, as well as how they may be engaged in mediating the beneficial health effects of bioactive food components. In mouse model of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), the composition of intestinal microbiome defines the sensitivity of animals to chronic intestinal inflammation. Animal health status improvements in high fat diet-induced obese mice, whose diet was supplemented with curcumin, are associated with significant alterations of gut microflora composition. What beneficial bioactives are produced by intestinal microbial community in response to enriching the diet with curcumin? Can gut bacteria be a target for novel therapeutic approaches?
