How can computer science education be more equitable?

How can computer science education be more equitable? What does equitable CS mean? Look like? Feel like?

This event presents the students’ point of view about equity in computer science education. It’s an opportunity to learn from students in the field as they share their stories of challenges, accomplishments, and vision for the future of CS in schools and society.

  • Hear how five high school and undergraduate students interpret equity in computer science education.
  • Learn how to encourage and support Black and Latinx students to pursue CS as a major.
  • Identify ways that school professionals and administrators can create a more equitable CS education program.

Invited speakers:

  • Miriella Gonzalez-Ullon, junior at Montclair State University majoring in Information Technology with double majors in Psychology and Computer Science
  • Melissa Jara, sophomore at Bergen Community College; majoring in engineering science
  • Amyah Maze, sophomore and is currently home-schooled; she has an interest in coding and entrepreneurship
  • Jayson Meribe, junior at Roxbury High School and is interested in computer science and robotics
  • Dequane Nealy, freshman at Howard University, majoring in electrical engineering with a minor in computer science
