University Calendar

The Department of Theatre & Dance presents Day of 100 Solos on May 11, 2021 from 4-5:45PM, in five outdoor locations on the Montclair State University campus. Observers are welcome to drop by for a few minutes or watch for the full time. 

This site-specific outdoor performance features over one hundred dance majors in five different locations on the Montclair State University campus.

Performers can be seen at the Amphitheater next to the Alexander Kasser Theater, on the south green of the Student Center Quad, in front of the Feliciano School of Business, on the northside of College Hall, and on the lawn in front of Freeman Hall. 

Spectators are encouraged to walk through the campus and spend time in each location observing the creative talents of these young artists. The solos are created by the students and are inspired by the choreographic expertise of this year’s Spring Dance 2021 guest artists Jennifer Archibald, Jessica DiMauro Marks, Gregory Dolbashian, Roderick George, Larry Keigwin, Kathleen Kelley, Emmanuèle Phuon, Helen Pickett, Ellenore Scott, Bradley Shelver, and Brandin Steffensen. 

After 8 weeks of immersive, process-driven creative experiences with these world-renowned artists and dance makers, our dance majors were tasked to reenter the create process to choreograph solos for this site-specific event that reflect the performance and choreographic modalities and tools used while working with these artists.

This academic year, due to protocols surrounding Covid-19, students in the Department of Theatre and Dance were placed into two cohorts to provide a safe learning environment.

This performance will feature the separate dance major cohorts in two 45-minute performances. Cohort A begins at 4PM followed by Cohort B at 5PM.  May 13, 2021 is the reserved rain date.
