{"id":123727,"date":"2021-12-10T10:15:32","date_gmt":"2021-12-10T15:15:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/cchl\/?p=123727"},"modified":"2021-12-10T10:15:32","modified_gmt":"2021-12-10T15:15:32","slug":"dr-mousumi-bose-receives-24987-grant-from-speragen-inc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/cchl\/2021\/12\/10\/dr-mousumi-bose-receives-24987-grant-from-speragen-inc\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Mousumi Bose Receives $24,987 Grant from Speragen, Inc."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/~bosem\">Dr. Mousumi Bose<\/a>, Assistant Professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/nutrition-and-food-studies\">Nutrition and Food Studies Department<\/a>, recently received a $24,987 grant from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.speragen.com\/\">Speragen, Inc.<\/a> for her project, &#8220;Patient-Focused Drug Development in Succinic Semialdehyde Dehydrogenase Deficiency.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Dr. Bose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/cchl\/2021\/01\/17\/new-publication-by-dr-mousumi-bose\">published a manuscript<\/a> entitled, \u201cZellweger spectrum disorder: A cross-sectional study of symptom prevalence using input from family caregivers,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/cchl\/2020\/01\/24\/dr-mousumi-bose-gives-talk-on-rare-pediatric-diseases-at-newark-beth-israel-medical-center\">spoke about rare pediatric diseases<\/a> at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/cchl\/2019\/04\/15\/119314\">received a publication grant<\/a> from the American Association of University Women.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bose aims to improve the standards of care for families affected by rare pediatric disorders, by shifting the paradigm of care to a more community-wide, public-health approach. Her goal for the fellowship is to compose and submit a publication describing the impact of gender on the nature of family care-giving for rare diseases.<\/p>\n<p>Speragen was cofounded by a mother of two children who are affected with a rare disease, Succinic Semialdehyde Dehydrogenase (SSADH) deficiency. Speragen knows first-hand the challenges of navigating a life with a rare disease: from the daily challenges, the diagnostic odyssey, accepting the new reality post-diagnosis, finding a team of knowledgeable clinicians who can provide care, and finally to seeing the chasm between the current state treatment and when a therapy may be available.
