April 11th Educator Shortages Event \u2013 Program Agenda<\/a><\/p>\n

The shortage of educators, including certified teachers, is creating a potential crisis in public education for the families, communities, and employers that rely on quality public schools. These newer challenges exist alongside longstanding disparities between the racial and ethnic backgrounds of professional educators and those of the students and communities they serve. In New Jersey, the stress of both of these challenges is felt throughout the state in smaller, mid-sized, large, suburban, rural, and urban school districts.<\/p>\n

Tackling these challenges takes many stakeholders: public school leaders; state leaders in the governor\u2019s office, legislature, and New Jersey Department of Education; universities and colleges; professional associations and organizations; local and county leaders; and other organizations. Montclair State University\u2019s College of Education and Human Services is hosting a convening to explore the work of inter-institutional partnerships, such as between higher education or professional associations and K-12 schools\/districts in helping to support students, communities, and educators.<\/p>\n

Please join the dialogue on April 11th and learn about strategies to increase the number of highly qualified professionals, especially teachers and other school professionals of color, who join and remain in New Jersey\u2019s public schools. How can new or expanded partnerships increase and enhance the New Jersey teacher workforce within the next five years? By bringing into conversation policy makers, higher education experts, and school\/district leaders, we hope to foster conversations that might also spark new partnerships.<\/p>\n
