Dr. Schleede-Horn obtained her PhD in physiology from New York University. She spent several years at NYU, coaching with Dr. George Horn and subsequently joined the MSU faculty in 1966.

In addition to chairing her academic department at MSU, Dr. Schleede-Horn created, in collaboration with Dr. Walter Hasbrouck of Mountainside Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation, the signature element of the exercise physiology component of what is now ESPE in the form of Adult Fitness and degree granting programs reflecting cardiac rehabilitation and exercise physiology. Her foresight in developing this aspect of the ESPE department is unparalleled. She also received awards from the American Heart Association, Association for Fitness in Business and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Dr. Schleede-Horn exemplified the leadership, professionalism and academic standards expected and sought by the department she ultimately led. Whether in agreement with her or not, you always knew what she believed, and she modeled the very best of the Panzer trust.

Dr. Schleede-Horn was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George Horn and her brother John Schleede. She is survived by her nephews: John (Jeff) and Lori Schleede of Cedar Key, FL; Derek and Monica Schleede of Brookhaven, NY; and Adam Schleede of Brookhaven, NY; stepdaughter Debra Killoran of Staten Island, NY; granddaugher Casey Killoran of NYC; sister-in-law Carol Schleede Chester of East Moriches, NY; and great nephews and nieces: John, Phil Cara, Julia, Caitlin and Jeffrey Schleede.

In April, at the Panzer Honors Convocation, several of the pre-eminent faculty, staff and alumni associated with the Department’s development and history who have passed away this year will be remembered and honored.
