Dr. Lauren Dinour Reminds NJ.com Readers that Food Insecure Families are Placed at Risk during School Closures
Posted in: College News and Events
Dr. Lauren Dinour, Associate Professor in the Nutrition and Food Studies Department, reminded readers for NJ.com that food insecure and low income families are at risk during school closures, for reasons such as COVID-19. Dr. Dinour stated, “Any time a school closes, children from food insecure families are placed further at risk because they must rely on their family’s limited resources for those two missed meals each day. In severe cases, children from food insecure families do not eat between the time they get home from school until they arrive at school the next day. Extended school closures can leave these children hungry for days.”
