Why did you choose Montclair State University?

I did research on many of the different colleges. As I kept researching, Montclair State University kept coming up with many things I was looking for in a college. One thing that really stood out to me was that they were a test-optional school. I felt that it said a lot about the University. It is very tough for some to be evaluated on one big exam like the SAT or ACT. Someone could have had an off day or may not do well on big exams like the SAT or ACT. Montclair State University does not let one test define what type of student you will be. I felt this allows Montclair State University to value you as an all-around student.

There were so many positives after visiting and taking a tour of the campus. I was able to sit in a class and have lunch with some students. I was able to learn of the possibilities of activities I could be involved in. I just knew that Montclair State University would be a great fit for me.

Why did you choose this major?

I will be honest- when I first applied to Montclair State University my major was going to be Psychology. I took a class senior year of high school and I enjoyed it. During the time home with the pandemic, I started researching Nutrition as a major. I knew that no matter what major I went into, I would like to work with children and athletes. I was a wrestling manager for 5 years and worked in a program throughout my high school with children. I also Junior coached our township cheer teams.

I feel that Nutrition and Food Sciences will allow me to learn healthy ways of living, and I could help children that may have issues with eating. I know first hand how wrestlers have to maintain their weight. Who knows, I may minor in Psychology to be able to help kids that may be facing an eating disorder. Even children that are picked on for their weight. There are so many different things I am passionate about and hope to make a difference in the world.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

I am looking forward to when we can finally have some normalcy to be able to be on campus. I am looking forward to getting involved in activities and meeting new people. I look forward to gaining new experiences and classes that will help my career path.
