The CEHS Staff Advisory Council recently organized a plot at the Montclair State University Campus Community Garden (MSUCCG). The growing season began on Earth Day, April 22, 2022, and will continue growing until the late summer/fall.

Imani Hill, Academic Advisor, and Joe Bavazzano, Director of the ADP Center for Learning Technologies, recently spent time in the garden, planting tomatoes, yellow peppers, and okra.

The MSUCCG was founded in 2018 as the first community garden at Montclair State University,  reclaiming and revitalizing underutilized space on the campus, and establishing 20 raised garden beds, totaling 1,000 square feet of growing space. The garden works to provide gardeners with all of the necessary tools and training to have a successful growing season.

During the traditional growing season, the garden provides produce to the Red Hawk Pantry, MSU’s on campus food pantry for students in need. Outside of the growing season, student groups and offices on campus work with the garden to help increase awareness of food needs, provide resources and support for addressing food insecurity on campus, and engage in research to monitor food insecurity on campus.
